Introducing Picblogr
I finally had a chance to complete my new online image gallery, Picblogr.
I have tried various image galleries, and haven't found any that suited what I wanted in one way or another. Flickr is way too busy and impersonal. Picasa is nice, but just not what I wanted. Gallery2 was OK for a while, but I really wanted... more! I asked myself if the world needed another online image gallery and the answer was a resounding, "Maybe!".
So Picblogr was born, the way any good software should be... by a developer scratching the itch that needed scratching. I got busy and created a new online image gallery, free for anyone to login and use.
The feature list is admittedly very basic at the moment. Users can create an account, and begin to create galleries. You can upload multiple images at a time to a gallery. Then just send the link to your user page to your friends and family and share your life in pictures. Galleries can be browsed and individual images viewed, or you can watch a slideshow.
Some blog features are to be added very soon, as you might have guessed from the name of the site.
Other features I will be implementing in the near future include
- handling movies and podcasts
- user, gallery and photo searching
- extending the user profile
- gallery and photo rating
- desktop widgets
- mobile integration
- ipod/iphone friendly features
I have many other features to add, but these seem to be most important right now.
For developers I'll also document the API which will be quite simple as the site is built using Rails 2.0 which has gone RESTful. By having the site using a RESTful architecture I hope to encourage people to extend Picblogr in ways I never imagined.
I'd love to hear from you if you find Picblogr useful!!
